a statement of the obvious: packing really sucks

On my first totally free weekend in ages, I have been a flurry of packing and sorting through the remaining stuff here at the abode on Gillespie. When the DIY projects first got underway, I packed up the easiest stuff — the books, DVDs, and completely nonessential items. So now, all that’s left is hard-to-pack things and miscellaneous leftovers. {sigh} NOT my idea of fun.

Yesterday it felt like I didn’t get a damned thing done, despite the fact that I started working at 6:30 a.m. Today, I let myself sleep in until 8:30 (I haven’t slept that late in a week! thank you summer school…) and have been unexpectedly productive, finally sealing up some of the more pesky boxes and seeing some progress.

By way of update, the official closing date was last Thursday, so I am no longer indebted to the bank for the house. However, in one of the final round of negotiations (after the house appraisal came in far lower than anyone had hoped or expected), the buyers agreed to give us two weeks to move out. So, our drop-dead, must-be-out-by-now date is June 27th, the same day housesitting begins for my friend from UTD. Very clever planning, that was.

Meanwhile, the first week of summer I has been brutal. In addition to the stresses of everyday life, which are not insubstantial here lately, I’ve been getting up at the bloody AWFUL hour of 5:30 a.m. and working through at least 6:30-7:00 p.m. It makes for a long day, sure, but the silver lining is that I very often have pockets of 2-3 hours free midday, so I’ve been able to relax midday, a luxury I am not exactly used to having.

Next week is going to be another doozy, in so many ways, but I expect that by next weekend (when my summer class is half over, I have had a chance to pack lots more, and other things resolve themselves), my outlook will be much improved.
