ah, so THIS is what it feels like…

… to do a massively full day’s work.

Traffic was BLISS this morning. I left the house shortly past 7:30 and was at my desk by 8:15. EIGHT FIFTEEN, people!! Miraculous, to be sure.

I recruited Catpants to join me for lunch. She’s always a delight to share lunch with. Plus, today I found upon my arrival to work that I managed to clean out completely my “Holocaust drawer” of emergency-reserve food that last week before Christmas, when I was dirt poor. So, you see, I *had* to go out for lunch.

But otherwise, this is the first moment of the day that I’ve actually torn myself away from intense concentration on some work thing to take a deep breath and reflect.

Generally, it’s the case that you can measure my work productivity my by work e-mail output. When I’m not focused, I don’t e-mail much. And today, I’ve broken all November AND December daily e-mail records.

Oh, sure, I’ve been doing other stuff. For example, one of the first things I did this morning was print out my last 2005 paystub for tax purposes, download the IRS’s extremely helpful Pub 17 for 2005 tax returns, and calculate how much tax I overpaid in 2005 (answer: I just figured out how to pay for travel expenses to Hawaii for the wedding, YES!).

I understand absolutely nobody reading this can understand or share in my excitement for skimming through Pub 17, but hey, that’s why you people pay others (like my mom) to do your taxes for you, so they can provide for their (sons and) daughters, who later become professional students who are strapped for cash and discover, with much glee, that their tax refund will allow them to afford traveling to their own wedding.

See? Taxes can be exciting!!

Discovering I will be able to go to my own wedding (by which I mean: we will be able to rent a car of our own, stay at the resort an extra day or two on our own, go scuba diving, and do other such fun stuff) isn’t the only reason I love playing the taxes game. It’s just the most important reason I can think of right now. 🙂

But, back to work. I did some other math today and figured out how to pay for my stupid flexible spending account goof. We’ve almost figured out how to keep my work e-mail account going after my official “last day” Wednesday. And I’ve had a delightful e-mail exchange today with one of my university Web geek peers at another area school… as part, I’ll have you know, of an absolutely TOP LEVEL PRIORITY research project my boss gave me an hour before I left for holiday break last year. (Hehehe, I love saying that. “Last year.”)

Good day. I just wish I could have gone and investigated/bought my school books today. Bastards at the bookstore are freaking closed. Annoying.
