I got an e-mail from Linens N Things today that, I kid you not, had this as its headline:
Breaking News in Dinnerware & Stemware
The point was that they have a new line of dinnerware that is supposed to be break/chip resistant. Still, I just thought it was very funny. Maybe that tells you something about my mental state? 😉
Things are actually going well. The ailing professor is supposed to be back next Monday, so I will be relieved of my teaching duties. It would figure that, now that he’s coming back, I’ve finally figured out how to teach (well) a mostly lecture class of 75 students. Wednesday’s class was easily the best class I taught for these kids, and it was evident in that they all stayed until class was over without shuffling papers, packing bags or falling asleep. It was actually probably the first time nobody fell asleep (visibly) in that class while I was teaching. I’m now almost sorry my time is up.
Anyway, given that everything else is ramping up, it’s probably for the best anyway. I’m at the library today working on the project one of my peers at school (who is sadly NOT in this class) has dubbed “the Million Paper March.” We have to write ~ 1-page summaries of approx. 125-150 articles by Nov. 17. Yikes! I’ve only got about 15 done, and that’s after I’ve spent a couple of hours working on it today. Ugh.
It really *is* a worthwhile project — much better than some random paper assignment we’ll never use again — but still. It sorta sucks right now.
Tonight, though, I’m breaking from the endless work to do something — dare I say it? — *SOCIAL*. Daniel and I are meeting up with newly engaged friends (yay!!!!) to see Guy Forsyth at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Deep Ellum. He brought his band, who Daniel’s never seen perform — last time we went to see Guy, it was just him and his guitar. It’s not that I don’t like Guy solo, but it was a completely different experience, mellow Solo Guy vs. the endlessly energetic Guy Forsyth Band.
