I am surprisingly relaxed right now, all things considered.
The last of my finals is due a week from today. I have a paper to finish by 2:00 tomorrow, and one of the finals (the hardest one) to finish by Thursday morning. I proctor a final Thursday morning and have to grade them ALL before leaving town Thursday night for another weekend in San Antonio. I’ll finish up the last final after we’re back from San Antonio, during the 48 hours or so we have between trips to do laundry and get ready for 2 weeks out of town on vacation.
Speaking of which, the wedding is two weeks from tomorrow. I picked up my wedding dress last Friday, took it to a place that ships stuff, and let them scrunch the dress up into a box to head to Hawaii. It arrived on the island around 7 a.m. today, and my uncle Fred is tasked with taking it to the cleaners this week to be pressed. Two weeks!!
To top it all off, the tooth I had “fixed” last Monday is still obnoxiously painful. I have been popping 800 mg ibuprofen pills at an alarming rate over the last week — by “alarming,” I mean “more often than directed.” It’s something my regular doctor keeps me stocked with for other, non-dental reasons, and not something I use very often at all. I finally cried Uncle and called the dentist this morning. They are going to see me tomorrow afternoon (apparently 10 mins of Monday morning, over-the-phone bitching doesn’t rate an emergency “we’ll fit you in” same-day appointment, oh well) and hopefully either get rid of the pain or prescribe something more powerful that will last a full 8 hours and thus allow me to sleep past 4 a.m. without waking up in crazy pain.
And yet, I’m sitting here on the couch with my laptop, several windows open to analyze the data that forms the basis for my last paper of the semester, vaguely watching TV, and generally feeling pretty darn good. I feel very little stress, no pain (at the moment — thank you ibuprofen!), and nothing but excitement and happiness. Go figure!
PS: I heard they offered what remains of my job at TWU to someone, finally. He interviewed during our first attempt to fill the job, back when I was still there and interviewing, etc., and he was definitely a top pick of mine. So I’m (very) glad to hear that.
