I don’t either, really, but if I did — now would be a FANTASTIC time to be a student at my high school alma mater.
Not only have the Bombers managed to win a stunning FIVE football games in a row now, after beating Jonesboro 49-21 last Friday and advancing 3-0 in conference play, but in the fine tradition set by their predecessors, the high school band is making us proud as well.
In today’s Baxter Bulletin, you can read all about them:
Band aims for another win
Mountain Home High School Marching Band Director Tom Chentnik walks through rows of students with their instruments held high as if he were a military drill instructor.
Looking for rows slightly curved and movements lacking precision, he carefully inspects the students lining up on the school’s practice football field.
Donning a microphone headset, he calls out orders to the band members.
“More horns,” he says. “That’s better at the beginning. Let’s do it again.”
The band is preparing for the Governor’s Showcase of Bands at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock this weekend.
“You get one shot Saturday,” Chentnik said. “We want to make it a good one — the best this year. There will be 42 other bands watching you.”
Chentnik hopes to make the Little Rock competition two wins in a row. The Bomber Band took home top honors last weekend at the 3-States Invitational Marching Contest at Huntsville. It is the fourth consecutive year the band has won the competition.
Alo! I am currently a junior at MHHS and I am in the band. I would like to thank you for thinking so well at us. Recently we have placed 3rd at Siloam Springs.
The football game was awesome! I loved wearing Bomber attire all week! I even caught a new Bomber tee shirt that I will proudly wear on Monday!
