This morning (moments ago, actually) I got a phone call from the organizer of the university Web geek conference I’m attending for the second time this July. I may have mentioned (though I can’t remember now if I have or not) that I had submitted an abstract for a session on user testing — meaning that I tossed my name in the hat of people who wanted to be a presenter at this summer’s meeting.
Last year, there were something like 20 people who submitted proposals for a total of about 16 slots, and some of them were, I admit, a bit dry. So I was all excited, thinking it was a sure thing I’d get chosen to present this summer.
They extended the deadline, which I took as confirmation that they wanted more people to submit proposals. So about a week ago I e-mailed the woman in charge, Shelley, to find out when they would make their decisions.
Turns out, they got 59 proposals for their 14 planned slots … YIKES! My hopes were dashed.
BUT … not for long, as she called this morning to say they’ve selected me to present. HOORAY!!!!!
Here’s a link to the conference. I’m in the Tuesday 11:30-12:30 slot, if you’re curious. I’ll let you know when they update the schedule and you can see my name there!!! 🙂
They’ve set 120 registrants as their goal, which frankly I think they’ll meet easily, especially since 59 people wanted to present at the dang thing. So, worst-case scenario, bet at least 35-40 total strangers in the field of university Web geeks will get to hear me talk this summer. How cool is that?!?!
