This has been an awesome weekend — and it’s not even over yet!
Friday night, several of us went to see (FINALLY!) Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. I’d read the play years ago, but to see it staged was fantastic. Now I’m anxious to watch the DVD. We had great company, but the weird thing was that it was SO FREAKING COLD!! I think the low while we were outside was something like 57 degrees (only in Texas does that rate as essentially freezing), but it was windy as hell and we had all of us neglected to bring anything more than an extra sweater or sweatshirt. Thankfully, the Risk Initiative theater folks had some blankets for general audience use, so we scooped up a couple of those REAL quick, but it was still freezing. Had we not had the blanket, we probably would have left before it was over — it was THAT damned cold.
Saturday, I slept in a bit and then scooted off to the book club discussion of Ender’s Game. I was running late and actually showed up nearly 20 minutes late for the meeting (erg), and then needed to shove off pretty quickly because Daniel, Lisa and I were all headed to Six Flags immediately afterwards. We recruited Gary to come along and headed to Arlington…
I have to say, even up until Saturday morning I was skeptical about going to Six Flags (last week was just so damned exhausting), but once we got there, I was really glad we’d decided to go. Daniel and I got season passes (which I think we’ll thank ourselves for many times this summer), and while we didn’t make it to even a fraction of the rides Saturday, we still got to ride a few fantastic roller coasters and walk around the park for the day. It was a LOT of fun and the right kind of leisurely distraction I actually desperately needed (but had mistakenly convinced myself I’d only get if I stayed on the couch all weekend). We ended the evening at Cold Stone in Plano. MMMMMMmmmmmm….!
Today, Daniel and I have spent most of the day doing yardwork {yawn}, but it’s something we’ve been putting off forever, and it was nice to be outside in the sun and mild Texas afternoon (a high of only 75ish today! sweet!). Rags spent a couple of hours in the yard with me, too, and he seemed to enjoy that immensely. Now we’re all exhausted and hanging out in the house, and I’m doing my homework.
Ah yes. “Being bad.” I had a final project due midnight Friday, and I just started on it a couple of hours ago. (Sunday.) Isn’t that terrible? But really — ask me if I care. I dare you. 😉
