Thanks to the two people — Nicole and Melissa — who played Monday Morning Trivia this week. To review, the question had to do with the Phantom of the Opera song that, above all others, never fails to make me cry. The correct answer was (A) All I Ask of You.

The four songs that comprised the answer choices all have significance beyond just the fact that they’re in my favorite musical. “Music of the Night” is probably my favorite Phantom song (good guess, Nicole!), in no small part because it’s the single most difficult piece of music I’ve ever mastered on the piano (and is still the most challenging thing I play whenever I do sit down at the piano). “Think of Me” reminds me of Governor’s School and the friends (other students *and* e-friends) I made there; “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” always makes me miss the people I’ve lost touch with.
But “All I Ask of You” makes me cry, and that’s for two main reasons: first, two of my friends at Governor’s School performed it in the end-of-school talent show brilliantly, and whenever I hear the song, I have vivid memories of them being on stage and singing their hearts out; second, the lyrics of the song provoke powerful emotions within me, for reasons that need not be discussed here. They just do.
