And, I’m turning 30 in a scant four days. Yeesh! (As an aside, I am *not* freaking out. Ahem.)
Lots is happening. Perhaps with the most long-term impact (well, possibly, anyway) is the fact that one of our neighborhood stray cats had six kittens in our backyard a month or two ago. We found them running around on the side yard two weeks ago Friday. Daniel took two of the kittens to the Allen Shelter, where we were later told they got adopted straight away. (No surprise there — people love kittens.) Another two of them went to Lisa’s apartment, where they took up residence under her bed. The last set of two is currently residing in our living room, where they are still pretty wary of people and generally run away when they see someone coming towards them. The only way we can get them to let us hold them is if we pick them up while they’re asleep. This doesn’t bode well … it certainly seems as though these two will never become insistently affectionate cats. We actually haven’t decided to keep them long-term, but as inertia is a very powerful force, we probably will.
In other long-term-impact news, I’m starting a new part-time job on Tuesday. I’ll be working at a publishing company preparing, editing, and writing content for the Web sites of three magazines. It’s a trip back to my roots as a writer and Web geekette, but it’s a pretty flexible job and one I will be able to do at least partially from home, so right now it’s rather ideal. It will also be an interesting change from the other stuff I do right now primarily related to teaching.
Speaking of teaching, I’ve also got a class starting on Monday that meets essentially for the month of June, four days a week, two hours a day. I’m *so* excited about it. My first government class! 🙂
Suffice it to say, June will be a busy month, but I’m still hopeful that we’ll be able to sneak up to Mountain Home for a couple of days around Father’s Day to visit my parents and meet my brother’s girlfriend. My parents met her back in January or February, but I haven’t yet and am eager to do so!!
We are enjoying having Dallas Summer Musical tickets this year. “Wicked” was, of course, *FANTASTIC* … “Wonderful Town” was less-than-wonderful, but “Camelot” was a great time. Daniel’s mom was in town that weekend, so we got her and Lisa tickets to come along and we had a lot of fun.
We were finally able to get in the pool the other day (June 1st — unbelievably late). I’m hardly one to complain about rain and cooler weather, but it was nice to finally be able to enjoy the body of water in our backyard.
