Perhaps the most important lesson I’ve learned in, say, the last 24 hours? Having a steady supply of friends who love theater (especially Shakespeare) is my new project.
I shouldn’t have to cast about so desperately for company to see “Taming of the Shrew.” I don’t feel like I’m asking for a lot. Shakespeare is only among the most widely read playwrights, like, *ever*. Shakespeare in the Park is sacred to me; I love going, have always loved going, and consider it to be a great luxury when I get to go. Tonight, I wanted to go with someone who has sufficient interest in or familiarity with Shakespeare to have a post-play conversation with me about the extent to which (if at all) the Nashville Shakespeare folks fucked up the play. That’s all. Is that REALLY too much to ask?
Answer: Yes, Liz. Apparently, it is.
