The breakfast buffet on the Century often had pain au chocolat available in the mornings, and since I so rarely see those around in Texas (generally, only at La Madeleine), I frequently nabbed one to eat with my breakfast of fruit and waffles. (YUM!) Because I got so used to seeing them, and because whenever I think of pain au chocolat, I immediately start humming (or at least hear in my head) this silly kids song we learned in Mme. Stevens’s French class at MHHS, within only a few days of being on the ship, every morning at the buffet I’d start humming the tune of “Les P’Tits Pains Au Chocolat” to myself as I started down the line. Not a bad way to start the day!
So today, I listened to the song again (I have it on my computer at home) and found the lyrics online. It’s kinda silly and folksy, but I love it nonetheless.
By the way, there was a significant population of French-speaking people on our cruise. Not a day went by that I didn’t hear French somewhere on the ship. I absolutely LOVED it!!
And my French skills, especially my listening to French skills, have gotten so much better over the years. I don’t know how to explain it, unless it’s just the few but prized French CDs I’ve picked up in the last several years — Carla Bruni and Francis Cabrel, in particular — and adopted as among my favorite driving music. Go figure!
