On a much sadder note, I heard on NPR on my way home tonight that Peter Jennings said today he has lung cancer.
While any sort of cancer is a scary proposition, I get especially saddened (and a little upset) whenever I hear about those who’ve contracted lung cancer. I’ve personally known (and known well) at least two people who’ve died of lung cancer, and the notion that someone even closer to me (a parent, a husband, etc.) could get the disease so often caused by an active decision to do something they know will hurt them … well, it just eats away at me.
Peter apparently quit smoking 20 years ago, though the story linked above says he briefly resumed smoking immediately after 9/11.
I hope Peter manages to survive this cancer and continues his wonderful work as a reporter and anchor for ABC news.
