While driving home tonight from Southlake, I was thinking about songs I haven’t listened to in a long time, and started reminiscing about some of the songs that have come to have personal significance for me over the last 10 or 15 years. By no means is this list complete, but here are 17 songs I could fit on a single CD that immediately make me think of important times in my life.
- “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye,” Boyz II Men
- “Wedding Song,” Kenny G
- “Please Forgive Me,” Bryan Adams
- “All I Ask of You,” Phantom of the Opera soundtrack
- “Les Passantes,” Francis Cabrel
- “Le Jour S’est Leve,” Telephone
- “The Music of the Night,” Phantom of the Opera soundtrack
- “Hotel California,” The Eagles
- “Waterfalls,” TLC
- “Oyeme,” Monica Naranjo
- “Save Tonight,” Eagle Eye Cherry
- “Life Uncommon,” Jewel
- “No Diggity,” Blackstreet
- “Do What You Have to Do,” Sarah McLachlan
- “Angels Would Fall,” Melissa Etheridge
- “You Had Me At Hello,” ?Kenny Chesney?
- “I Cross My Heart,” ?George Strait?
Perhaps (well, probably) because of my many years invested in learning to make music, I’ve always felt music is a big part of what moves my soul, and the first few chords of each of these songs is like a time machine for me; some of them make me want to cry immediately (hell, just *thinking* about them makes me a little teary!), but mostly they are just treasures from my past.
What are the songs of your life?
