I haven’t liked Rick Perry since I saw his “Why don’t you just let us get on down the road?” snafu with a Texas State Trooper caught on camera, which Tony Sanchez used with success (though not ultimate success) in the 2002 race for Texas Governor.
Rick Perry’s mouthpiece, though, is slamming one of the few Texas politicians I actually DO like — Carole Keeton Rylander (formerly Strayhorn), the straight-talking comptroller who has been rumored as a challenger to Perry for the governorship in 2006.
This is the ACTUAL STATEMENT released on the Governor’s behalf and given top billing on his Web site today:
Comptroller Runs Away from Recommendations
AUSTIN – Robert Black, a spokesman for Gov. Rick Perry, released the following statement on Comptroller Strayhorn’s refusal to acknowledge her own transportation recommendations:
“Who knew Comptroller Strayhorn could run away so fast from her own recommendations? The fact is the Comptroller can’t talk fast enough to cover up her hypocrisy in this case. It is a mystery why she wants the Legislature to restore her authority to do performance reviews when she attacks legislators for implementing her recommendations and won’t even own up to making them when her hypocrisy is exposed to the light of day.”
“This is a good example of the difference between fast talk and straight talk and unfortunately for the people of Texas, the Comptroller’s is once again playing fast and loose with the truth.”
