One of my favorite places to eat when I lived in DC was this fabulous place called the Silver Diner, of which there are seventeen in the metro DC area. I used to go with Mark for late Sunday breakfasts where he could get corned beef hash {ick} and I could have a very traditional morning meal consisting of chicken strips and Coke. 🙂
Ever since then, I’ve had a soft place in my heart for 50s-style diners — you know the places I’m talking about, with chrome everywhere, oldies music playing, and breakfast available anytime, day or night. Going back to DC in July gave me a chance to go to the Silver Diner with AnnaLisa and Paul, who had (lamentably) never been there before. (Aside: They, too, fell in love with the place!) Which, in turn, inspired me to moan & groan about the lack of an equivalent diner-type place here in Dallas.
Well … moan no more, Liz! Paul and Sandra introduced me to this fantastic place in Irving called, simply, Local Diner. There are four locations (Irving, Coppell, Carrollton and Flower Mound) that are open for breakfast & lunch daily. We met up at the Irving location for a BF early breakfast yesterday morning after my trip to the airport. I am so pleased with this latest find!!
(Aside: I am fond of saying that you find out who your true friends are when you move, because they’re the ones volunteering to help. I’m now convinced your true friends are also those who will get out of bed before 7 a.m. on a Sunday to meet you for breakfast just because you’re in the neighborhood.)
