While I was gone on vacation, I neglected to check the results of last week’s Bomber football game … but lo and behold, the Mountain Home Bombers managed to WIN their first conference game of the season last week against Jacksonville. The final score was 9-0, bringing Mountain Home’s season record to 3-1 (and 1-0 in conference play). It’s the end of the world as we know it!
Specifically (thanks to the Bulletin):
“Kyle Byrd hauled in a 75-yard touchdown and intercepted a pair of passes as the Mountain Home Bombers won their conference opener for the first time since 2000 via a 9-0 decision over the Jacksonville Red Devils Friday evening at Jacksonville.”
Beyond Kyle’s outstanding game, perhaps the most impressive thing about last week’s game was sophomore kicker Jake Young’s 48-yard field goal in the second half — the only points scored in the second half of the game.
Looking ahead, tonight Mountain Home celebrates homecoming by hosting a top-10 Arkansas team, the Sylvan Hills Bears. Head coach Shane Patrick is hoping for a big turnout tonight to help cheer the Bombers on to their second conference victory. I’m a big fan and an eternal optimist, but even *I* doubt their chances. Still, it could be a huge upset! Stranger things have happened! (I.e., beating Harrison.)
