I got my Oct. 11 issue of Newsweek today, and only when I saw the picture on the cover of Bush and Kerry shaking hands and smiling (Kerry with genuine glee, Bush with that stupid little grin of his), I realized something.
Last week, Kerry wore a red tie and Bush wore a blue one.
In the election of 2000, red states went to Bush, blue states to Gore.
In the hyper-aware political atmosphere prevalent in the U.S. today, I refuse to believe this wasn’t coordinated ahead of time. Does anyone think this has any significance at all?
Or am I just preoccupied with appearance things?
By the way, I’m watching Cheney and Edwards in their sit-down as I type this, and I see they’re both wearing red-ish ties; Cheney’s is bright red, Edwards’s is a more muted hue.
