tailgating in Mountain Home

Continuing my obsessive coverage of the Bomber-Goblin Friday-night matchup, here’s the preview story for the day from the Bulletin. I’ll be there for the tailgate party! And for those getting weary of my football rants, I promise it’ll all be over in another 48 hours! 🙂

Go Bombers! Pep rally this afternoon

A community-wide pep rally this afternoon at 5 in the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot will kick off activities surrounding the Mountain Home-Harrison high school football game.

Both the Bombers and Goblins are 1-0 on the season, and the 58th consecutive meeting of the teams will be the home opener for Mountain Home. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bomber Stadium.

The pep rally will feature games for children, including a football toss and field goal kicking contest. Wal-Mart and Coca-Cola will provide prizes, as well as Wal-Mart furnishing free hot dogs for fans.

Mountain Home High School football players also will be performing community service by helping patrons carry purchases to their vehicles.

“I think it’s going to be a big thing,” said Mountain Home Head Coach Shane Patrick. “We’re going to have a community-wide pep rally, and we’re also using this as a community service project. Our players will be at the checkout stations, and anyone that needs help taking their groceries and things to the car, we’ll be there to help. We’ll also have some games set up for kids, like a football toss and a field goal kicking contest.

“Some of the people that are sponsors — Wal-Mart and Coca-Cola — are going to provide prizes. Wal-Mart is providing hot dogs to give away, and it’s going to be a really big deal,” he added. “I hope that people will come out and enjoy it. It’ll last an hour and, hopefully, it will build some excitement for Friday night’s game. I also hope that everyone will come on out to Bomber Stadium afterwards and support the Junior Bombers in their season opener at 6 p.m.”

Another activity planned is a tailgate party at 5:30 p.m. Friday, presented by the Bomber Booster Club. The menu includes grilled turkey marinated by Hugh Monger, cole slaw provided by Kentucky Fried Chicken, baked beans from Brent’s Rib House, a dessert and drink.

Cost of the meal is $5 for adults and $2 for students in grades six and under. All proceeds will benefit the Bomber Booster Club.

Businesses also are urged to support the Bombers by putting “Go Bombers, Beat Harrison” on their marquees. Aside: They will, and that’s why I love my hometown so darn much!
