Thank goodness for DVD collections. We spent the “snow days” watching season five of The West Wing (one of my favorite TV indulgences), which only just came out on DVD this Tuesday. Talk about great timing!
My 36 hours of work reprieve were a fantastic early Christmas present to celebrate the end of school. We lit a couple of fires in the fireplace — that was my first time ever to do that as an adult, btw — and snuggled up on the couch to relax. We made chili that was too spicy for my tastes, not spicy enough for Daniel. {sigh}
I found out the professor with whom I’ll be working as a teaching assistant next spring, and he’s a great match for me — the classes I’ll be assisting with are right up my alley, and his schedule closely matches my own.
My parents are back on the mainland now, and I’ve been in touch with the wedding coordinator at the resort we’ve selected for our wedding. As of yesterday, we have a tentative date and she’s working up our contract. I’m going to put together a Web site with the details, photos, etc. — will share that with you as soon as I get it all pulled together.
My mom tells me my favorite uncle Fred has volunteered (ala Joey of “Friends”) to become legally capable of performing weddings so he can marry us. It’s slightly funny, but very touching; having Fred marry us will mean a lot to me and (I imagine) a lot to him, as well. Of course, this means we’re going to have to come up with our own ceremony … as I doubt Fred has a binder we can flip through to select the passages we want to use. As I’m so fond of writing, though, my hope is that it won’t be too hard to come up with something appropriate.
Though of course, having Fred (who I adore) marry us means I will not possibly be able to refrain from crying.
I’m off to Houston next week for a couple of days… then it’s going to be a nonstop stream of activity until the new year. Hard to believe it’s already here.
I think Freddy would be better than Rumpy—He would have you laughing the whole time!
