I’m in Austin this week at a state-sponsored, Microsoft seminar/introduction/overview about .NET development.
Honestly, how many of you did I just lose? 😉
It’s interesting. The .NET programming environment has some significant improvements over previous Microsoft standards, and everything seems to be about a thousand times more intuitive and easy to use than any programming I’ve ever done before. This has also turned out to be well timed, since I had previously been thinking it would be good to take an Intro to ASP continuing ed class offered at Collin County later this fall, but now I can easily see that it would waste my time; instead, I should be looking for an Intro to ASP.NET class.
Outside the confines of the Internet-free classroom (which I wasn’t expecting, so I’m consequently fighting off a serious case of Internet withdrawal — NOT pretty), Austin’s turning out to be a really fun trip. Daniel tagged along on this trip to keep me company, and last night we had a great time drinking half-price Long Islands and playing at Dave & Buster’s, conveniently located just around the corner from our hotel. They have this really great deal Sunday-Thursdays where you can get a full-sized entree and a $10 play card for $13.99. We definitely took advantage! It was a lot of fun, and we’re thinking about making a weekly (or mostly weekly) outing to Dave & Buster’s a staple for the fall semester, so at least we both have one night a week we can look forward to and enjoy each other’s company in.
Speaking of which … classes start in two days now! EEKS! I’m still sorta freaking out.
I really do like Austin, though, even though we haven’t really strayed far beyond a one-mile radius of the hotel. There’s just so much in this neighborhood (the Arboretum, for those familiar with the city) that it doesn’t seem necessary.
Perhaps most impressive? I’ve completely resisted the urge to go to Barnes & Noble. 😉
